Botox 101: Everything You Need to Know
When it comes to smoothing fine lines and softening expression wrinkles, Botox is one of the most popular and well-known treatments in the world of esthetics. But if you’re new to the idea. or just curious about what’s true and what’s hype, you’re in the right place. Below we’re sharing the ins and outs of Botox to help you make an empowered decision about the procedure!
What is Botox?
Botox, short for Botulinum Toxin, is a neurotoxic that works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles and fine lines. These lines often appear from repeated facial expressions like frowning, squinting or smiling.
Botox is most commonly used to treat forehead lines (also known as the “11 lines”), frown lines and crow’s feet around the eyes. It can also be used to treat other cosmetic concerns such as a gummy smile, downturned corners of the mouth and neck bands.
How Long Does Botox Last?
This is one of the most common questions we receive! On average, Botox results last about 3 to 4 months, though this can vary depending on:
- The area being treated
- The number of units used
- Whether it’s your first treatment or you’re maintaining results with consistent sessions
Staying consistent with your treatments may help extend the duration over time as your muscles become “trained” to relax.
How Much Does Botox Cost?
Botox is typically priced per unit, and the number of units needed varies by treatment area and individual muscle strength. A unit typically ranges from $12-16, depending on your geographical location and provider experience.
Here’s how many units most people request on average:
- Frown lines (glabella): 20–30 units
- Forehead lines: 10–20 units
- Crow’s feet: 12–24 units (6–12 per eye)
At Amenity Esthetics & Day Spa, we provide a customized quote during your consultation based on your goals and facial anatomy. Our priority is always natural-looking results that enhance your features.
How Long Does Botox Take to Work?
While some clients notice softening of lines within 3–5 days, full results generally appear around 7–14 days after treatment. This allows time for the product to fully block the nerve signals to the targeted muscles.
If you have a special event coming up, we recommend scheduling your Botox appointment at least 2 weeks in advance to allow time for the full effect and any minor adjustments, if needed.
Can You Get Botox While Pregnant?
Out of an abundance of caution, Botox is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, as there simply hasn’t been enough research to confirm its safety.
If you’re expecting or planning to become pregnant, we’re happy to recommend alternative treatments to help you feel your best, like hydrating facials or gentle chemical peels.
Is Botox Bad for You?
Botox has been FDA-approved for cosmetic use since 2002 and is considered very safe when administered properly. But as with any aesthetic treatment, results and safety depend on the skill and experience of the person performing the injections.
This is why it’s so important to choose a licensed, experienced injector who understands facial anatomy and takes the time to customize your treatment. At Amenity Esthetics & Day Spa, we focus on education, thoughtful dosing and beautiful, balanced results.
